Horseback Riding in Costa Rica

How much fun would it be to gallop down a deserted beach just in time for a glorious sunset, or to slowly make your way through a sleepy village while sitting atop a beautiful steed?

In Costa Rica you can enjoy a horseback experience in any part of the country, even in San Jose if you really wanted to!  Tours vary from half-day excursions to multi-day, multi-terrain adventures. Tell us what you want and we'll make sure you get it!

Where to Do It?

Guanacaste Area

Join the Sabanero (cowboy) culture and explore the vast open plains. In the Rincon de la Vieja area horseback trips will take you to hot springs, waterfalls and bubbling mud pits and to Sabanero ranches. Contact us for a great tour.

Northern Pacific and Nicoya Peninsula

Most of the beach towns in the north Pacific have horseback riding trips available. Hop on a horse in Tamarindo, Playa Flamingo, Samara or any other 'Gold Coast' beach town and travel thru beautiful countryside where the surrounding hills and its hidden waterfalls lead you to the beach just in time for a spectacular sunset. Tell us if you have something in particular in mind and we'll try to arrange it for you. 

Central Pacific

Along with fun beach excursions in Manuel Antonio and Jaco, you can take many off-the-beaten paths thru rain forests and surrounding hills to discover hidden waterfalls and natural springs. Tours are for everyone and every level. Contact us for the right tour for you.

South Caribbean

Mix it up a bit and combine a rain forest tour with the beach. Take an hour tour or a full day tour, you tell us and we'll set it up.

Monteverde and Arenal Areas

• Mountainous trips in Monteverde include crossing rivers, swooping down into valleys where coffee and guava grow abundantly and making it in time to a scenic overlook to catch the sun going down over the Gulf of Nicoya.
• In La Fortuna take a trip to the La Fortuna Waterfall and on trails in the Arenal Volcano National Park.
• How about doing something totally different? Instead of hopping on a shuttle or bus to or from Monteverde to La Fortuna (Arenal), get on the back of a horse for a full-day excursion instead. Insider Facts

• Be prepared: always wear long pants and boots or sneakers. Wear a hat for the extra sunny days and bring plenty of water.
• Watch out for tour operators offering rock-bottom prices, they often use horses that are old, overworked and underfed.
