Biological Reserves of Costa Rica
There are eight official biological reserves in Costa Rica accounting for 21.6 hectares (.42%) of the national territory. These protected areas have stricter regulations than national parks and are typically used by researchers.
Biological reserves house reseach stations and facilities where scientists, students and volunteers investigate tropical rain forests, rare and endangered flora and fauna and neo-tropical ecology.
Most are open to the public for daily explorations.
